“Master Jewel Exhibition” A fundraising exhibit of handmade jewels

On April 7, 2014 the students from Marneuli School #3 at the Marneuli House of Culture held their exhibition.  Proceeds from the jewels sold will go to Iashvili Children’s’ Hospital. The next exhibition will be in Tbilisi at the Caucuses House. 

“Safe Environment” resumed meeting

Marneulis’ school #5 projects of small grants meeting took place. The problem was the school was not properly designed to handle water runoff at the front of the school. During rain storms children were forced to walk in water to enter the school.  The civic club members presented their project to government officials, local citizens, and students.  The past, present, and possible future plan was displayed. The Government promised their support. This project is in accordance with APPLIED CIVIC EDUCATION AND TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM, implemented by PH International,                                                                                           SIQA is a partnering organization.

Tetritskaro Muncipality “Where you are getting tired, you get rest” (rest area)

Tetritskaro School #1 and Koda School created this project at the Civic Integration Camp. One rest area was placed in Koda and the other in Tetritskaro. The Tetritskaro will impact 1000 residents while the one in Koda will impact 500. The government assisted with transportation of materials and promised to plant new trees at area. Local residents helped with the cleanup.

“Road for Healthy Generation”

The Dmanisi civic club students created a project at the Civic Integration Camp. There were two schools from Dmanisi, one Georgian and one Azerbaijan School (#1 and #3).  The Road for Healthy Generation is intended to improve the citizens of Dmanisi physical activity. The problem was the Dmanisi football field was in poor conditions. The students wanted to upgrade the locker room.

The students meet with the Government and it was there where they decided to upgrade the locker room. The government provided material to upgrade the roof. Local business helped with labor. Other material where purchased by a grant (1300USD). Local citizens helped with cleanup the felid

To honor the achievement a football (soccer) and volleyball tournament was held.  Schools from Javakhi, Iaguplo, Gantiadi, and Dmanisi (1 and 3) attended the tournament.  On April 6, 2014 an adult football tournament was played. On April 12, 2014 a girl’s volleyball tournament was held.

Head of Government [Municipality] Nodar Aduashvili said “we will help with all initiative young adult project made, they are developed great project”.   

Visit to Center of Intellectual Property National Center

On February 3, 2014 Rustavi schools 1, 9, 15, 20, 21, 23, and 26 visited the Center. While there they received knowledge about Georgian products. Irakli Gvaliadze the Head of Board hosted the guest. The young adults discovered protection and registration property rights.

Meeting with the members of Georgian association of Photography

On April 2, 2014 at the Rustavi USAID Center, a meeting with Kakha Pkhakadze a member of the association and, civic club members of Rustavi took place. The students learned the history of photograph, how photography became art, processing of developing film, and the art of taking a photo. An open discussion also took place. This meeting is in accordance with APPLIED CIVIC EDUCATION AND TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM, implemented by PH International, SIQA is a partnering organization

Project “Our Streets”

From the Civic Integration Camp Marneuli School #6 created “Our streets” project.  Marneuli School # 6 was one of eight schools at the camp, four were Georgian and four were Azerbaijani . The students believed one of the biggest problems their community was there was no proper building identification signs. A hundred and thirty-five residential and commercial dwellings for the last ten years have not been properly marked. These dwellings are on Rustaveli Street.  There have been incidents in the past when emergency services had trouble identifying locations.

The students went to Marneuli municipalities’ and discussed this issue. The government appreciated the proposed project and decided to help. Labor (placement of signs) was provided by the municipality. The Center of Infrastructure and Architecture designed the signs. A grant financed the signs.

On March 31, 2014 signs were installer on all dwellings. Now, emergency services, citizens, and tourist will have an easier time when trying to identify a location.
