From the Civic Integration Camp Marneuli School #6 created “Our
streets” project. Marneuli School # 6
was one of eight schools at the camp, four were Georgian and four were Azerbaijani
. The students believed one of the biggest problems their community was there
was no proper building identification signs. A hundred and thirty-five
residential and commercial dwellings for the last ten years have not been
properly marked. These dwellings are on Rustaveli Street. There have been incidents in the past when emergency
services had trouble identifying locations.
The students went to Marneuli municipalities’ and discussed
this issue. The government appreciated the proposed project and decided to
help. Labor (placement of signs) was provided by the municipality. The Center
of Infrastructure and Architecture designed the signs. A grant financed the
signs.
On March 31, 2014 signs were installer on all dwellings.
Now, emergency services, citizens, and tourist will have an easier time when
trying to identify a location.
